Heh, my background is one of the changing ones, this is one of the default themes that I thought was cute. I also have like fourteen pictures of Andy and Jessie which you can see here (main ones are 35-42). Eh, my desktop is currently a mess. I like to have it condensed to 3, at minimum 4, columns. This gives me incentive :)

Dirk’s Revenge

The queue is done, by the way :)

Sapphy’s cut was feeling better, and to test how well she felt, Dirk and Sapphy ventured out into the snow.

"Dirk?" Sapphy gasped, pointing into the distance, "Ohmygod, is that the man that I pushed off the cliff?"

Dirk whipped around frantically. “Where? Sapphy? I don’t see anything?” Sapphy collected the snow into a nice, firm ball. “Sapphy, where is he? Can you point him out?” Dirk started to turn around. “Sapphy, there’s no one there. That’s not funny. I was so worried. You have to learn to—ah!”

Sapphy smacked him with the snowball, which exploded into a puffy, powdery mess. “I got you! I got you good! Oh, man, you should’ve seen the expression on your face!”

Dirk burst into laughter as well, smiling and shaking his head. “I guess you are feeling better.”

That night, Dirk sat up in his sleeping bag and said, “Sapphy? I know you’re awake. I can hear you shivering.”

"It’s cold," she complained, sinking down deeper into her sleeping bag.

"Yeah, that’s what happens when you sleep in just your underwear," Dirk said.

"Look who’s talking—all you’re wearing are pants."

"Yes, but I’m not shivering loudly enough to wake the dead," he griped.

"What do you propose I do about it?"

"Put on more clothing."

"I’ve got a better idea," Sapphy said, and climbed down from the chest.

"What’re you doing?"

Sapphy cuddled up next to Dirk, and he slowly wrapped his arms around her. “Humans are a great source of warmth,” she whispered.

"Your hands are cold," he murmured, and she tentatively pressed them against his chest. "Sapphy?"

"Yeah?"

"I’m freezing. Please put the sleeping bag back on."

She giggled and covered them with it, like it was a blanket. She could tell that Dirk was trying to move as little as possible, and she nuzzled her head into his chest, sighing.

Dirk finally set Sapphy down after a long trek, setting up camp once more. The snow skimmed the tops of their boots, and Dirk had constantly emptied his shoes during the journey.
"Aren’t you glad I carried you?" Dirk asked, grinning. Sapphy smiled wryly at him and shrugged.
"I’m just wondering what you’re cooking for me tonight," she teased.
"A bratty redhead, if she isn’t careful," Dirk responded.

A few minutes later, Sapphy’s knee buckled and she yelped with pain. “I think I need a rest now,” she grumbled, sitting down.

"Sapphy, take a look at your cut and tell me whether or not it’s infected," Dirk said. He looked away as Sapphy examined the cut.

"It is," she said grimly.

"That does it," Dirk said, and swept her up in his arms. "I’m carrying you the rest of the way."

"I don’t think so, bucko!" Sapphy cried, struggling to free herself. Dirk tightened his grip.

"It’s snowing, Sapphy. Please, just rest. You’ll have a few days to heal and then you’ll be fine. But right now we don’t need to aggravate the cut any more."

"Put me down, DIrk," Sapphy said coldly, staring daggers into him.

He rolled his eyes. “My final word is no. You’re a little—well, a lot—heavier than I expected, so I won’t have the energy to say much more, so please, Sapphy, shut up.”

"Can you walk any faster, Sapphy? We need to change our location to make sure that we haven’t compromised the mission. We can’t be discovered."

Sapphy impatiently strode forwards faster, only leading to her limping. Dirk immediately reached out his hand to support her. “I’m fine,” Sapphy snapped, masking her pain with a strained smile.

Unconvinced, Dirk suggested that they take a break. “Dirk,” Sapphy growled through gritted teeth, “you just told me that we needed to hurry up. I just stumbled. I’m fine.”

"If you injure yourself more now then it’ll be worse later. If you need a rest, tell me," Dirk insisted. Sapphy simply shrugged and quickened her pace.

The next day, a cold chill awoke Sapphy long before she normally rose, and she found herself surprised to see Dirk waking only a little before her.
"We’re going to need to wear warmer clothes," Dirk said, turning towards Sapphy to get them out of the chest. "What’s that?" He pointed to dried blood on Sapphy’s thigh..
"It’s just a small scratch from yesterday’s fight. I’ll be fine," she said, swatting his hand away.
"Did you clean it out?"
"I’m fine, Dirk, now give me some room so I can change,” Sapphy sighed, giving him his own clothing and pushing him out of the tent.

"So," Sapphy started, "Story time!"
Dirk rolled his eyes, but felt, as they were both in their sleeping bags, as if he was indeed at a sleep over. “Very well. This one is short, so you’d better fall asleep fast.
"Once upon a time, I was posing as a homeless man in the early 21st century. I was supposed to obtain a certain letter from a group of nasty men and then report to a certain household with a daughter named Sapphire."
"That’s me!"
"Yes, that’s you. Anyway, The group of nasty men were a little too strong for Dirk the strong, brave, gallant and handsome—"
"Don’t forget smelly!"
"—and they chased him down an alleyway, where they stabbed him and left him for the dead. The end."
"The end? What about the happily ever after part?"
"I don’t have a happily ever after."
"Well, not yet, anyway."
Dirk, most likely unable to think of a response, fell silent, leaving the two time travelers to think about what Sapphy had just said.

"So," Sapphy started, "Story time!"

When they got to the tent, Sapphy made Dirk lie down while she cleaned and disinfected his wound.
"Ow! That hurt!"
"Calm down, Dirk, I barely touched you. I’m only disinfecting it now," Sapphy said, and Dirk cried out in pain. Sapphy managed to wrap some bandages around his centre, safely applying pressure to his wound.
“God, that hurt,” Dirk moaned, squeezing Sapphy’s shoulder tightly.
"I’m all done now," Sapphy said, sounding annoyed, "so you can stop breaking my shoulder. He barely even scraped the surface. You’re fine. I didn’t know you were such a baby."
"I’m not a baby. I have a high pain tolerance," Dirk complained, wincing as he sat up, "I just haven’t been hurt in a while. I got stitches after that stab wound, but I was under for that."
"Ever going to tell me about that stab wound, by the way?"
Dirk shrugged. “I will right now if you want.”

Sapphy supported Dirk as they made their way back. Dirk was pressing his cut hard in order to reduce the blood, but it was causing him to cringe the entire way back. “You shouldn’t have interfered,” Dirk finally chided, the first one to mention their battle.
"Really? Why not?" Sapphy chirped, her voice a note too sweet for Dirk to detect its underlying sarcasm.
"You could’ve gotten killed!"
"Uh huh? And tell me, Dirk, who would’ve saved you from that evil man if I hadn’t gotten involved?"
"I had it under control," Dirk said sheepishly. Sapphy shot him a look.
"You had a sword to your throat," she quipped.
Dirk smiled, and admitted, “Alright, maybe I needed a little bit of help.”
"Where would you be without me?" Sapphy laughed, bumping his hip with her own.
"Watch it," he said, drawing a sharp breath.
"Sorry, sorry," Sapphy responded worriedly. Dirk gave her a friendly punch to the shoulder. "Hey!" Dirk grinned mischievously, leading Sapphy to stick out her tongue.

Sapphy lifted her sword and whooped, ecstatic at her victory. The fall was enough to make the man fall unconscious and even break a bone, but certainly not enough to kill him. Or at least, she hoped.

After a few moments of celebration, Sapphy remembered Dirk and panic filled her chest. She hurried back to the large tree and saw Dirk and the two men he had been fighting lying on the ground, none of them moving.

"Please be okay," Sapphy whispered, hurrying over to him. She realized that without Dirk, she would be completely lost in the Medieval Times, without a single person to help her. Her parents would be devastated.

"I’m fine," Dirk groaned as Sapphy knelt in front of him. He was clutching his stomach in the same place where he had gotten stabbed when Sapphire’s family first found him.

"You’re not fine," Sapphy scolded, but smiled anyway.

Sapphy turned and held her sword out tentatively, ready to parry. The man lunged suddenly and Sapphy managed to spin out of the way just in time, swinging her sword wildly as she went. She managed to catch the tip of the sword on the man’s temple. A trickle of blood streamed down his face and he became enraged. The man lunged forward again, and this time Sapphy was not fast enough. He managed to scrape her thigh, causing Sapphy to yelp in pain. Sapphy braced herself for a second blow and managed to push back. The force of the push caused the man to stumble backwards. He lifted his sword to strike again, but that only caused him to tumble down. He rolled down the cliff, landing at the bottom with a thud.

Stopping only to pick up her sword, Sapphy bolted out from behind the tree and let out a warrior cry of her own, tackling the criminal from the side. “Who in tarnation are thee?” the man swore, rolling out from Sapphy’s grasp and springing to his feet. Pumped with adrenaline, Sapphy managed to stand as well and face him, her arms shaking. “No matter. Thou would’st not be the first whore I have had to slay.”

Dirk was fending off two other criminals, who were wielding expensive weaponry that they no doubt stole. Glancing wildly over at Sapphy as she attempted to escape the first criminal, he yelled, “Sapphy! Get yourself as far away from here as possible! Run!”

She obeyed, but was followed by the man who wanted to kill her. Her heart pumped fast and her legs were going faster than they’d ever gone before, but she was soon met with a cliff. She had no choice but to face her pursuer.
